This park is home to the second highest mountain in Africa with 5,199 m, Mount Kenya, Kilimanjaro is the first. The natural forest along with the National Park protects the area around Mount Kenya covers 1,300 km2.
In 1978 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
Having glaciers on the peaks, is also an important source of water for the country as it provides water for 50% of the population, and generates 70% of hydropower.
We can observe here agricultural areas and pastures, while tropical rainforest, bamboo forest and snow as we ascend. As for wildlife, we can find elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, golden eagle, vulture and the serval.
