Sometimes we are so used to seeing some things that we don't wonder whether they have a reason. It is what happens with the flag of Kenya. We know how it is, but have you ever wondered what its colors or its central shield mean?
We don't want to bore you with the history lesson, let's start on the basis of the Republic of Kenya is quite recent. Formerly was a British colony and its inhabitants led a rebellion after finally achieved their independence. And because of this independence was when the flag we know today emerged.
Its colors symbolize the majority ethnic of Kenya (black), the blood shed in the struggle for freedom and independence (red) and the natural wealth of the country (green). The white lines separating these colors symbolize peace and unity. And finally, at its center is the Maasai shield with two spears symbolizing the defense of freedom.
Certainly for Kenyans, a flag of pride and meaningful.
