If you want to go on safari to Africa but still don't know which country you are going to visit, here are some guidelines that we hope will help you in your choice.
Kenya and Tanzania are the countries of safari par excellence. It all began in Kenya and has the great Masai Mara National Reserve, the ornithological paradise of Lake Nakuru, the possibility to see herds of rhinos and many more wonders.
Both countries have wonderful things and we couldn't say one or another. However, there are some point that can make you decide for one of them:
- The date of your safari: depending on the month you want to travel, it will be more convenient to visit one country or another. This is not always accurate because with climate change and rainfall patterns, sometimes crossings across countries begin earlier or later. Tell us when you want to travel and we will advise about it.
- The budget you have available: on economic issues, Kenya will be the option that suits you. There are differences between the two countries when traveling and Kenya is more affordable for all pockets than Tanzania.
- The wildlife you want to see: there is unique wildlife in some parks, such as the reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra, which are typical of Samburu. If you want to see something concrete you will have to adapt your safari to the country where you have more chances of spot it.
As we have said sometimes, we don't recommend combining the two countries for a short safari. The reason is you will visit many places but it'll be a short and fast stay, making a safari against the clock with many kilometers and also more expensive travel because of the costs of gas. However, if you have enough time to calmly visit both countries, then it is more than recommended. But as we say, it is a personal opinion!
