The climate in Africa

The climate in Africa

Very hot, hot, cold, very cold? It is the eternal question that we ask the first times we visit the African continent. And the answer is that the weather, rain and temperatures are unpredictable, and also influences whether a person is a cold natured or heat sensitive. There aren't many changes throughout the year as they are countries close to the ecuator. To summarize, we would say the following:

  • The temperature in the parks of Kenya and Tanzania during the day ranges from 25-35º C, approximately. So, during the day, it will be hot, but nothing unbearable. There are drier and hotter parks (Samburu, Serengeti and Tsavo) and other cooler ones by the presence of lakes and abundant vegetation (Nakuru, Naivasha and Manyara).
  • During the night, sunrise and sunset, is always going to cool down, and in some cases will be really cold. At your accommodation they will give you extra blankets if you need and in some lodges even put hot water bottles in bed before going to bed.

So, our recommendations are carrying clothes both for summer and warm, and adopt the "onion style", that is, to dress in layers. We will wear warm clothes in the morning going to the safari and, throughout the morning, we will take away layers of clothing to stay in short sleeves. In the afternoon it will cool down, so we will wear our coats again.

As you will go comfortably in your private car, you have no problems to bring so many things, there is space enough! So if you've finished reading this... let's prepare your suitcase! See you in Africa!
