Rift Valley Lakes

Duration: 10 days and 9 nights

For those bird lovers, we have prepared a safari of 10 days and 9 nights, mainly by the most important lakes of Kenya, plus the Masai Mara reserve. It is a suitable safari for both bird lovers and for those who like all wildlife, since in these sites animal diversity emanates from every corner. You will begin your journey in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and later you will follow the path by the lake Baringo, with the Pokot tribe. Then we will head to Lake Nakuru, tinged pink by flamingos, and then to the lake with his incessant fisheries, lake Victoria. The large reserve of Masai Mara and the spectacular Lake Naivasha with its large population of hippos will make that we end our safari with wonderful and unforgettable sensations. We will return home with a suitcase full of memories and emotions difficult to explain.

Day 1: NAIROBI

Arrival in Nairobi. Reception at the Jomo Kenyatta airport and transfer to the hotel. Depending on the time of arrival you will stay at the hotel, or if you arrive in the morning you will have free time in the hotel or the possibility of optional activities, such as visiting the Museum of Karem Blixen (Out of Africa), the elephant orphanage, giraffe center, and the possibility to visit the Nairobi National Park, just 10 km from the city. Boulevard Hotel, Red Court, Jacaranda or similar. 

Day 2: LAKE BARINGO

We will go early in the morning to Lake Baringo, an ornithological paradise where BBC, CNN and TVE among others film wonderful documentaries. Its waters are full of crocodiles and hippos. An exciting boat ride allows you to view the stunning fishing ospreys. We may also make a visit to the Pokot tribe. Lake Baringo Club. 

Day 3: LAKE NAKURU

We will go after breakfast to Lake Nakuru, where we will arrive at lunchtime. In the afternoon, we will make our safari, which surprised us because the beauty of the lake and its pinkish tones due to the flock of flamingos that inhabit it and give worldwide fame to this ornithological paradise where we can see over 400 species of birds. Nakuru is also a White Rhino sanctuary and home for many animals including lions, leopards, buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, baboons and the characteristic hyrax. Lake Nakuru Lodge or Maili Saba Camp. Day 4: LAKE NAKURU

Full day in Lake Nakuru, where we will continue to search for the different animals in the park, like leopards, lions, hyenas, buffaloes, zebras, hyrax, antelopes ... On this day we will have the opportunity to visit the Menengai Crater. Lake Nakuru Lodge or Maili Saba Camp. Optional Flamingo Hill Tented Camp.

Day 5: LAKE VICTORIA

We head to Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. Here you will see a large number of Rothschild giraffes and a variety of birds. Lake Victoria is an emblematic point of the African continent, where we find the turning point in safaris. We will visit the Homa Bay area, where we will have the opportunity to visit the island Mfangano. Mfangano Island Camp, Rusinga Island Lodge or Wayando Beach Club.

Day 6: LAKE VICTORIA

On this day in the vicinity of Lake Victoria we could make a variety of activities as visiting the bird island, visiting a fishing village where women sun dried fish that their husbands have fish, enjoy bird watching, boat trips or visits to see the lifestyle of the locals or even visit the nearby city of Kisumu, one of the most important places. Mfangano Island Camp, Rusinga Island Lodge or Wayando Beach Club.

Day 7: MASAI MARA

Depart to Masai Mara, considered by many the best game reserve in the world. We will arrive for lunch at the place where thousands of animals roam for its vast meadows, attracted by its pasture and permanent water. This place has every year the Great Migration where wildebeest, zebras and gazelles are trying to cross the Mara River in search of better pastures, under the watchful eyes of crocodiles waiting for the feast. Mara Sopa Lodge, Mara Leisure Camp or Oloshaiki Camp. Day 8: MASAI MARA

Full day in Masai Mara, where we will visit different areas of the reserve and we will approach the Mara river trying to see the famous crossing. We have the possibility of a balloon ride or visit a Maasai manyatta, where masai people will share with us various activities of their daily life. Mara Sopa Lodge, Mara Leisure Camp or Oloshaiki Camp. Day 9: LAKE NAIVASHA

After breakfast in Masai Mara we head to Naivasha, one of the quintessential lakes of the Rift Valley, populated by hippos that we can see from a peaceful boat ride. We will have the possibility to go to Crescent Island, where we will have a walking safari surrounded by giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelle ... We may also visit the Park Hell's Gate, where you can make walking and cycling safaris surrounded by wildlife. Lake Naivasha Country Club o Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similar.

Day 10: NAIROBI

In the morning we will say goodbye to the spectacular Lake Naivasha and after that we will head to the Nairobi airport for departure to our place of origin, but with thousands of experiences in the suitcase that will be back with you.
