Area: Southeast Kenya
The sum of the national parks Tsavo East and Tsavo West form one of the largest national parks in the world and occupy 4% of the area of Kenya.
Tsavo East National Park is the largest with an area of 13,747 km2. It is a huge area of arid savannah crossed by emerald Galana river and has the largest elephant herds in Kenya.
The remaining fauna are rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles and several species of antelope. We can also find over 500 species of birds.
Tsavo West National Park, smaller than the last, with 7,065 km2, has a riverine vegetation and rocky ridges in some of its areas, while others open plains, shrublands and acacia forests predominate.
Regarding fauna we highlight elephants, rhinos, lions, hippos, leopards, buffalo, and some species of birds.
