Lamu Island is a historic town with many old buildings, narrow streets and a friendly Arab population. This old city is artistic and historic heritage of UNESCO. The city has not changed much, men still wear long robes (khanzus) and traditional hats (kofia), while women wear the traditional bui-bui. Dealing with them is easy, as there are no cars on Lamu, only donkeys as transportation, and everyone is in the main streets. Next to Lamu is a popular small village of fishermen, Shela, one of whose most famous beach locations is Jadini, where people from the island go every evening to watch the magnificent sunset.
