Hisia Safaris, the journey of emotions

Hyrax

Hyrax

Today we want to introduce to you a small and cute animal, the hyrax. They are in very few places in the world and Kenya, Lake Nakuru in particular, is one of them.

They are short-tailed and furry animals, small, since not exceed 70 cm and weigh no more than 5 kg. By the look you would think they are rodents, but the truth is that they are more related ... to the family of elephants! This is due to some physiological and morphological characteristics shared with them, something very strange considering how small is one and how large is the other one!

The hyraxes live in rocky terrain, so one of the places where we can find them in Lake Nakuru is in Baboon Cliff. If you see them, you will notice how quickly they move through steep, rocky surfaces, and the branches of the trees, they are super skilled! Even if you approach slowly and quietly, you can take a picture with them! :)

They use to go in groups, so when you see one, look around because you are sure to find many more.

Although it is not one of the animals we look for when we go on safari in Africa, it is always enjoyable and fun to hang out with them.
